These are homeless Roma children in Serbia. Many of them, in addition to being exposed to daily discrimination and abuse have no medical care of any kind and are forced into child labor from an early age. Due to extreme poverty, majority of them do not attend school while those who do often face violent behavior and verbal abuse by both students and teachers only because of their background. Educators commonly place Roma children at separate desks, in separate classes and every so often in schools for mentally handicapped children where they are being isolated and neglected.
The racist conduct to which these beautiful and gentle souls are exposed is not always explicit and aggressive. Instead it can be concealed and unnoticed in daily life. Covert racial discrimination is often disregarded and rarely reported, but the collective effect of such events is devastating. As a result of such prejudices, chances to expand their natural potential are shattered. Experiencing such severe psychological and emotional neglect often results in a life long sense of humiliation, diminished self-esteem and absence of self-worth. These disturbing facts launched my project with a goal to not merely confront people with this aspect of reality but more importantly create one powerful multimedia educational tool that will counter social injustice these children face daily.

My students created http://letthesunshinein.us - flash web site with a clean, modern design approach, automatically adjustable full screen gallery for the optimum content presentation that will maximize the effort to counter social injustice and violence against Roma children.
